High School Summer Reading
Summer Reading is an integral part of maintaining high academic standards and year-round learning. It also helps foster a love for reading. The list below is an example of the types of reading assignments high school students may be required to complete during the summer. As reading lists may change from year to year, it is important to consult with your instructor and check this site closer to the end of the school year for specifics regarding each grade level. 9th grade Students entering 9th grade at Mobile Christian are required to read Night by Elie Weisel (English). 10th grade Students entering 10th grade at Mobile Christian School are required to read The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. Required for Regular English and US History Students: The Three Musketeersby Alexandre Dumas (English Requirement) One Book from History Reading List (US History Requirement) found at www.mobilechristian.org Once on the site, click "Teacher Pages" and then click "Tony Kendall" Required for Accelerated English and Honors US History: The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas His Excellency by Joseph Ellis 11th grade Students entering 11th grade at Mobile Christian School are required to read The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper. Required for Students in Regular English 11 and US History II: The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper (English Requirement) One Book from the History Reading List (History Requirement) found at www.mobilechristian.org Once on the site, click "Teacher Pages" and then "Tony Kendall" Required for Students in Accelerated English 11 and AP US History: The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper (Accelerated English) The Jungle by Upton Sinclair (AP US History) If you are planning to take Accelerated English 11 next year, you should know that you will read six American novels throughout the school year.
