ACCELERATED READER AND STAR
Accelerated Reading Program
Accelerated Reading will be introduced in 1st grade and used in Grades 2nd to 5th. This program is a computerized reading management program. The program provides motivation, accountability, and literature-based reading practice for students while giving teachers important feedback about individual reading progress. The program works this way: 1) a student reads an AR book on his reading level; 2) the student takes a computer quiz to measure how well he understood the book; 3) after each computer test, a report is generated that tells how the student scored on the test. The students develop a great love for reading and enjoy earning points each week. I hope your child loves it too.
STAR Program
Each elementary student in Grades 1st to 5th will be given a STAR Reading Test in August and January to determine their reading level for the AR Program. This test is done on the computers in the elementary computer lab. Based on test results, students will be given their reading range. When the students visit the library they will use this reading range to check out books in their level.
